Monday Essentials: Citizens' Police Academy; Donate Your Old Musical Instruments

Here's what you need to know to get your week started in Danvers.

Today is Monday, Sept. 23. Here's a look at the week ahead in Danvers.

  1. Danvers author Dan Kennedy will be at the Peabody Institute Library of Danvers Monday night with his new book, "The Wired City: Reimagining Journalism and Civic Life in a Post-Newspaper Age."
  2. Town board meetings this week: The Zoning Board of Appeals meets Monday (7 p.m.) at Town Hall. You can find the agenda here. The Affordable Housing Trust also meets Monday (7 p.m.)., while the Planning Board meets Tuesday (7 p.m.), and the Water & Sewer Commissioners meet Thursday (5:30 p.m.) along with the Conservation Commission. There are several other board meetings this week as well. Check the calendar on the town website here.
  3. The Danvers Police Department's ten-week Citizens' Academy program starts on Tuesday and runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m. You can find an application here.
  4. Instrument Drive at Danvers High: The Musary, a local nonprofit organization, is holding a musical instrument drive in the high school auditorium lobby Tuesday (4:30-6:30 p.m.) in which you can donate your unwanted or unused instruments to go to other students who can't afford an instrument on their own.
  5. Need help getting organized in your home? The Peabody Institute Library of Danvers is hosting a session to address just that Wednesday evening.
  6. The Kiwanis Club of Danvers hosts its 29th Annual Eliminate 5K on Saturday to support work to eliminate the deadly disease of maternal/neonatal tetanus. The race starts and ends at the high school and is sponsored by Beverly Hospital.
  7. The Danvers High Class of 1978 reunites Saturday at Timothy's. More details here.
