Monday Essentials: It's a Westie World Frolic

Get your week started in Danvers right here.

Today is Monday, Sept. 16. Here's a look ahead at the week in Danvers.

  1. Town board meetings: The Board of Selectmen meet Tuesday in the Toomey Room at Town Hall (7 p.m.). There's a lot on the agenda, which you can find here. The Preservation Commission also meets Tuesday in the Town Manager's Conference Room (7 p.m.). The Traffic Advisory Committee meets Thursday (2 p.m.) at the police station and the Diversity Committee meets the 19th as well (7 p.m.).
  2. Are you interested in volunteering with Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston? The Danvers-based nonprofit is now offering a new training program, starting this Tuesday for volunteers.
  3. The Greater Beverly Chamber of Commerce, which does include some Danvers businesses, is holding its annual gala over at the DoubleTree Hotel on Thursday.
  4. The 468th U.S. Army Firefighters are waging a war on diabetes and they need your help. Goodies Ice Cream Parlor is hosting a scoop-a-thon Friday afternoon to do just that. Twenty of the proceeds will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. And we understand McGruff the Crime Dog will also make an appearance thanks to the Danvers and Peabody police.
  5. The new fall season for NFL Flag in Danvers, a non-contact co-ed league for ages 5-14, is starting up on Saturdays at Plains Park with a pre-season game this weekend.
  6. The West Highland Terrier Club of New England puts on its 3rd Annual It's a Westie World Frolic in the Park over at Endicott Park on Sunday. Whew, that was a mouthful. More details here.
  7. There's also an antique car show at Putnam Farm Sunday to benefit Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston.
