Family Fun at Timothy's, Bless Your Pets, Fall Frolic and Scarecrows This Weekend

Get a look at the quick info about some of the local events happening this weekend in Danvers and nearby on the North Shore.

There's a lot going on during the first weekend of October. Below you will find the when and where for some of our picks, including three days of historic horse-drawn coaches, an oceanfront start and finish for a 5K race and lots of other fall-themed fun.

1. FALL-THEMED FAMILY FUN AT TIMOTHY'S

Where/When: Timothy's, 225 Newbury St., Danvers; Saturday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Why Go: Timothy's is holding a Family Day for some fall-themed fun, games and food. There will also be arts and crafts, a barbecue picnic and tables with vendors. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Friends of the Danvers Dog Park.

2. FALL FROLIC 5K

Where/When: Lynch Park, Beverly; Sunday, registration opens at 8 a.m., fun run at 9 a.m., 5K at 9:30 a.m. 

Why Go: The popular (and flat) Homecoming 5K route is used for the 4th annual Fall Frolic 5K, which raises money for the PTOs at the city's five elementary schools. The start and finish is at Lynch Park, and there will be snacks at the park afterward.

Pricing: 5K for adults, $20; 5K for elementary age children, $15, fun run for grades 5 and under, $2

3. NORTH SHORE COACHING WEEKEND

Where/When: various locations in Hamilton and Topsfield

Why Go: This is the first appearance of historic horse-drawn coaches on the North Shore. The coaches will take three different routes through Hamilton and parts of Topsfield each day. The routes are carefully outlined on the Myopia Driving Club website, showing the times and roads that the coaches will travel. 

Pricing: Free to spectators

4. MAKE YOUR OWN SCARECROW

Where/When: Brooksby Farm, 50 Felton St., Peabody; Saturday and Sunday, noon - 3 p.m.

Why Go: You can make your own scarecrow this weekend at Brooksby Farm. You bring the clothes for the stuffing, the farm provides the straw. Also bring a canned good with you to donate to Haven from Hunger (tuna fish, peanut butter, spaghetti or sauce).

5. A BLESSING FOR YOUR PETS

Where/When: Endicott Park, 57 Forest St., Danvers; Saturday, 1 p.m.

Why Go: Rev. Thea Keith-Lucas, a chaplain at MIT and former rector of what is now All Saints Episcopal Church of the North Shore, Danvers, will conduct the 11th Annual Community Blessing of the Animals at Endicott Park. The church sponsors the event as part of its Perfect Paws Pet Ministry.
