1. SANTA BY SEA

Where/When: Popes Landing, 8 Harbor St., Danvers; Saturday, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Why Go: Santa Claus comes to town by boat and there will be tons of activities for kids and loads of food, according to organizers of the annual event. Santa arrives around 11:30 a.m., but kids can also enjoy pony cart rides, bouncy houses, trackless train rides, horse-drawn wagon rides, popcorn, treats, candy, cocoa and more. The event is hosted by the Danvers River Committee, Friends of Danvers Recreation, Inc., Danvers Harbormaster’s Office and Danvers Recreation.

2. HOLIDAY HOUSE TOUR

Where/When: Beverly Historical Society; Saturday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Why Go: It's the Historical Society's first ever holiday house tour, showing off the city's history from the 17th century to today. Premiums tickets, for $75 for members and $100 for nonmenbers, includes a reception afterward with refreshments.

Pricing: Historical Society members, $25; nonmembers, $35

3. GINGERBREAD CONTEST

Where/When: Wenham Museum; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Why Go: Gingerbread homes built along the theme of "flavorful fantasies" - a food theme - will be on display starting on Saturday as part of the Gingerbread Express Model Train Layout. Voting will be open through Dec. 15 for visitors to choose the best gingerbread home for the 7th annual contest.

Pricing: Included with museum admission, $8 for adults, $6 for under 18

4. STORY TIME WITH SANTA CLAUS

Where/When: Northshore Mall (lower level of Nordstrom wing), 210 Andover St., Peabody; Saturday, 9 a.m.

Why Go: Santa Claus will be reading some of his holiday favorites to kids while they cuddle up on Yogibo cushions. There will also be arts and crafts and some Radio Disney fun. The event is sponsored by Yogibo. 

Pricing: Free

5. JOLLY JAUNT 5K RACE OR WALK AND 1K FUN RUN

Where/When: Lahey Outpatient Center (formerly Beverly Hospital at Danvers), 480 Maple St., Danvers; Sunday, registration starts at 11 a.m., 1K Fun Run at 12 p.m., 5K at 12:30 p.m.

Why Go: The race, on a USATF Certified Course in Danvers and Middleton, benefits Special Olympics Massachusetts. It will also include raffles, prizes, entertainment and "all you can eat" food afterward.
