The original house of worship at First Church was built in 1672 and was known as First Congregational Church back the. Twency years later it played host to the Salem Witch Trials at the church meeting house. The current building, from 1980, is the seventh structure to be built on the site and the church is now a member of the United Church of Christ denomination, one of two in Danvers. The pastor is Rev. Judy Proctor. These days, the church offers nursery and Sunday School for children during Sunday services. There is a montly prayer group, local service opportunities, weekly Bible studies and shared youth group activities with fellow UCC member Maple Street Congregational. The church rents space to Grace Fellowship Church and Step Into Learnin Preschool. A playgroundis located in the rear of the building. Local chapters of Alcoholics Anonymous also meet during the week. Overflow parking space is available at Highlands Elementary School.
