Maple Street Congregational Church
978-774-4510
The Maple Street Congregation is a member of the United Church of Christ denomination, one of two such churches in town. Maple Street and the First Church of Danvers run a combined youth group program. The pastor is Rev. Kevin Smith. Services are broadcast on Danvers Comcast channel 99 and Verizon channel 36 each Sunday at 10am and 7pm (there is a one week delay). Members participate in several choir groups for both children and adults. Christian education classes are held during the service, and childcare is available each week in the nursery. The church also collects food items for local pantries and works with other non-profit faith-based agencies.
The church was originally founded in 1844 as a response to the growing abolitionist movement of the day. After a fire burned down the old building, a new sanctuary, classrooms and offices were built in 1949.
