The Danvers Police Department was established in 1752. There are 46 officers and 12 civilian personnel working in theMore department today. The force has 18 patrol vehicles. The current police chief is Neil Ouellette, who was promoted to Chief in January 2005. He has spent 31 years on the Danvers force.

The department publishes a quarterly newsletter, "The Defender," which is available online. Visitors to the site can also report a crime, submit an anonymous tip, review recent crime alerts, sign up for Nixle (an electronic alert service), see who the registered sex offenders are, get crime prevention tips, download licensing or collision forms, view a staff directory, register for the next Citizen Police Academy or see a calendar of local events.

"On the Beat with the Danvers Police" is a 30-minute show offering crime prevention tips, interviews with officers and the latest crime trends and statistics.
