The Danvers High golf boosters are hosting their annual tournament at Ferncroft Country Club on June 17. The tournament is the major fundraiser the boosters put on to help cover expenses for the Falcons' varsity team.

The Danvers High baseball club lost a tough 5-2 contest Sunday afternoon against Masconomet in Lowell and is out of the playoffs.

The Falcons opened up a small lead early in the game but the Chieftains whittled away at those two runs before blasting in three runs in their last at bat. After seven, it was 5-2, Mascoconomet. Danvers ends the season on a 20-3 record. Rafael Tylus took the mound for Danvers at LeLacheur Park Sunday while both runs came in the bottom of the second for the Falcons: on a balk and an RBI single by A.J. Couto that brought home Joe Olszak. The Chieftains then rallied back for a run in the third and again in the sixth to tie it up at two prior to the three-run half in the top of the seventh. Danvers baseball is now 20-3 and headed to the sectional title game Sunday after blanking the Belmont Marauders Thursday night in Lowell.
The Falcons simply shut down Division II foe Belmont High Thursday night up in Lowell to launch themselves back into the sectional finals of baseball. You can read more on the highlights from the game in the Salem News here, but suffice to say, junior Brandon Hyde recorded his second shutout of the playoffs with solid backup on fielding and batting to end nine with Danvers High ahead, 6-0. This is Danvers' first time in the North Final in five years and it will be the third time the Falcons play Masconomet for the title, according to the Salem News. The last clash, 10 years to the day, between the two Division I teams in the playoffs ended better for Peabody, but this time, the Eagles shut out the Tanners Thursday night at Fraser Field in Lynn. The final score after nine innings was 5-0, bringing the Tanners' season to an end at a 20-5 record. St. John's Prep (22-1) now moves on to the Division I North Final game against the winner of Saturday's Westford Academy/Billerica semi-final match-up. Brandon Bingel, a new grad from the Prep and a Peabody native, is predicted to be among the late picks in the Major League Baseball Draft this week.
He just graduated from high school and star pitcher and infielder Brandon Bingel could be headed to the big leagues. According to the New England Baseball Journal, Bingel is among 20 top prospects for the Major League Baseball draft this week. The draft runs June 6-8. Only eight of the 20 players mentioned are actually in college now. Bingel, who also plays shortstop, just graduated from St. John's Prep and is featured as No. 12 in the lineup published in the June edition of the magazine. He has committed to play at Bryant University and is predicted to be picked in rounds 25-30 of the draft. Danvers High baseball is the Falcons lone remaining team in the playoffs, while over at St. John's Prep, there is still strong competition for tournament titles.
The Falcons' baseball team is the only varsity sport at Danvers High still in competition for the playoffs now. The Falcons shut out Division II foe Tewksbury Friday night at Plains Park, 5-0, in a first round game, which means Danvers faces Reading Monday (6:30 p.m.) at home. The Danvers High softball team, despite its near perfect record this season and a home field advantage, fell to Tewksbury Saturday, 8-5, in a hard fought quarter final game. And in tennis, the Danvers boys lost to Burlington in the first round and the girls were swept by Wayland in a preliminary round. ... The boys varsity lacrosse team at St. John's Prep is playing the East MIAA playoffs this year.
With a 12-6 season record, the St. John's Prep varsity lacrosse team in will be moving on to the playoffs this season. The team has a bye in the preliminary round of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association East Division 1 finals. However, they will be playing the winner of the Andover an Cambridge R&L game in the first round of the finals on Saturday, June 1 at 4 p.m. at St. John's Prep. The winner of that game will move on the quarter finals of the MIAA Boys Lacrosse East Division 1. This information was obtained from the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association website.
