To Combat 'Showrooming,' Best Buy and Target to Match Online Prices

The two chain stores have locations at the Liberty Tree Mall.

Target, for the first time, said this week that it will match its in-store prices with online competitors such Amazon.com in the weeks leading up to the holidays, reports MarketWatch. The price match guarantee applies only to “select rivals” and runs from Nov. 1 to Dec. 16. Best Buy had announced a similar program days earlier, the Washington Post reported. But the Post said that it would apply only to appliances and electronics and will be given only “if asked.” Both big box chains have a store at the Liberty Tree Mall. Price match promises have typically only applied to local in-store pricing, both MarketWatch and the Post report. And in this case, Target said it specifically plans to match Best Buy’s prices too. Bad News For Best Buy: Profits Plunge 90%

Best Buy stores in the U.S. open longer than 14 months - which includes the one in Danvers - saw business drop 1.6 percent in the most recent quarter.

Best Buy is not having a good year, a good week or a good day. The nation's largest consumer electronics retailer, Best Buy Co. withdrew its full-year earnings guidance on Tuesday after reporting a 90-percent drop in net income during the second quarter, dragged down by restructuring and weak sales. It was expected that Best Buy would pick someone with retail experience, and Wall Street didn't respond well, reported AP. Already battered by news Monday of an uncertain buyout effort and the naming of a new chief executive, the electronics …

Best Buy Reports Delivery Delays, Items Out of Stock

The retailer has told some customers that they cannot fulfill their online orders in time for Christmas.

Best Buy is telling some of its customers that the Christmas presents they ordered online won’t be coming in time for the holiday because the items are now out of stock. Best Buy officials have declined to say how many customers or the items affected, according to Minnesota Public Radio, which is the state that Best Buy headquarters is located. The company said overwhelming demand for products has caused “a situation that has affected redemption of some of our customers’ online orders.” Retail consultant Howard Davidowtiz suggested the problem has to do with inventory management, reported Minnesota Public Radio. R.J. Hottovy a retail analyst with Morningstar, said online retail sails are up about 15 percent this year. "With the …

I have to agree with Lori! In this economic limate, I believe it has more to do with Best Buy's relationship with its suppliers and the fact Best Buy may not be on very sound financial ground. Accoriding to what I read, these are orders placed as far back as "Black Friday". My guess as a consumer is that Best Buy is going through some very tough times. The publicity nightmare of not meeting …   more ›
