An Amesbury man faces charges after allegedly stealing beer from a Danvers distributor last weekend.
A police dog helped lead police to an alleged beer thief in the early morning hours last weekend, even after the dog had a run-in with a skunk. An employee that reported that a man wearing a red sweatshirt was in the building at Merrimack Valley Distributing Co. on Prince Street at 3:06 a.m. on Saturday. The man grabbed a case of beer and a six-pack and got away after forcing open a door, said Danvers Police Sgt. Robert Bettencourt, a police spokesman. Danvers Police arrived and heard somebody in the brush next to the building. A police dog from the State Police was called and helped track the suspect. The concession stand at Plains Park was hit by burglars at the end of last week, the third time it has been burglarized this summer and the fourth similar incident at the park this summer.
For the third time in less than two weeks, burglars struck the Little League concession stand at Plains Park late last week. The break-in was reported at 12:12 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9, according to Danvers Police Sgt. Robert Bettencourt, a department spokesman. A neighbor heard noises coming from the area of the concession stand and called police, he said. Responding officers saw someone running through the park as they arrived and found the door pried open. Candy was strewn around the area, Bettencourt said. Because the suspect was believed to still be in the area, a police dog from the Essex County Sheriff’s Office was called in and police set up a perimeter.
