Taxis Given OK to Immediately Resume Danvers Pickups

Three taxi companies that have pending taxi licenses filed with the town of Danvers were given a temporary OK on Tuesday to immediately start picking up customers again.

Three local taxi companies were given a temporary OK on Tuesday to immediately start picking up customers after a compliance check last week found no licensed companies with a town license. The Danvers Board of Selectmen said that since North Shore Taxi, ND-A-RYD and Salem Taxi all have valid licenses in neighboring towns and have applied for a license from Danvers, each company can make pickups in Danvers until a public hearing in April on whether the companies should be granted a full license. Even them, the board could issue a temporary license if the companies fall short of the town's requirements. After Accepting Brazilian Passport as ID, Gold Buyers Serving 7-Day Suspension

The Board of Selectmen handed down a 7-day suspension to Gold Buyers at the Mall following a public hearing on Tuesday.

When Bob Knapp logged on to Danvers Patch last month, he was surprised what he saw. Knapp, director of loss prevention for Gold Buyers at the Mall, read a story about the company’s location at Liberty Tree Mall and saw that the location was facing accusations that it accepted an improper type of ID from a seller. Last Tuesday night, after an extensive discussion, the Board of Selectmen decided to impose a seven day suspension that is being served this week in connection to that violation. The suspension, the board said, was actually a prior suspension that been held over the head of the business for a year following a prior infraction. Slots Developer to Meet with Selectmen on Wednesday

Members of the Danvers Board of Selectmen plan to meet with a representatives of the Cordish Co. on Wednesday about the companies plans to possibly build a slots parlor at Liberty Tree Mall.

Representatives from the Cordish Co. plan to meet with members of the Board of Selectmen at Town Hall on Wednesday to go over plans to possibly build a slots parlor at Liberty Tree Mall. On Tuesday night, selectmen told about 60 people that filled the Toomey Meeting Room that they did not have any further details beyond what has been reported in the press. “We have no details and no further information,” said Selectman Gardner Trask. Selectmen plan to meet with a Cordish representative in groups of one or two on Wednesday to hear more details and ask questions.
