Ice Cream Breakfast Benefit Planned for Saturday

This year's "Ice Cream for Breakfast" fundraiser at Cherry Farm Creamery will benefit the Danvers Dog Park.

Maybe you've quietly replaced Cheerios and toast with ice cream once or twice at breakfast time. This Saturday, you won't have to do it secretly and you'll have a great excuse. You can eat ice cream for breakfast in support of the Friends of Danvers Dog Park at Cherry Farm Creamery on Saturday, Feb. 2 for National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day. Cherry Farm will open early at 8 a.m. for the occasion and serving a special “breakfast” menu. The usual hours are noon to 9 p.m. Half of the proceeds of ice cream sales from 8 a.m.-noon will be donated to support the completion of the Danvers Dog Park at Endicott Park. Dog Park Inks First Major Corporate Donor

People's United Bank recently donated $2,500 toward the $30,000 fundraising goal for a Danvers Dog Park.

The planned Danvers dog park at Endicott Park has received its first large donations from a local company. Friends of Danvers Dog Park announced this week that People's United Bank became the park's first major sponsor with a donation of $2,500 to the project. Friends of Danvers Dog Park Chairperson, Carla King, recently brought Kevin Noyes of People's United Bank, and his dogs Otta and Hannah, to park's site at Endicott Park. The Friends of Danvers Dog Park have raised $20,000 toward the estimated $30,000 it will take to complete the park. That's great- it will offer a place to legally allow dogs off leash. I do hate it when people walk around Plains Park with their dogs off leash. They are breaking the laws and their dogs often run after or follow people who don't want anything to do with their dogs.   more ›

The idea for a dog park in Danvers was approved by Selectmen in June 2011, and the planning for a place for pups at Endicott Park is underway.  Here's a quick five question Q&A with the Danvers Dog Park Committee.  How many people are currently involved with the dog park planning?  For the most part it’s a core group of about 10 people with many other people lending a hand on events etc. When does the dog park committee hold meetings? The first Tuesday of every month at the People’s United Bank community Room at 6:30 p.m.  What are some of the biggest challenges that the committee is facing right now? Matt Faino has been a good friend to the dogs of Danvers, long before he adopted his own dog, Alfie.

Name: Matt Faino Street: Putnam Street Family: Wife Mary and dog, Alfie Hobbies: Matt used to play and enjoy basketball but after having back surgery he hasn't felt strong enough to go back to playing. Matt now enjoys hiking and walking in the woods.  Matt also enjoys being involved with the upcoming Danvers Dog park. "Initially, a few years ago I didn't have a dog" Matt said. "I walked the neighbor's dog and met people with dogs, and I liked the idea of a dog park." After he became involve he adopted a SATO, a slang term for a street dog who arrived in the area from Puerto Rico. Matt starting meeting with a group of people several years ago to get the dog park up and running. "The idea is straightforward," he said. "Dogs need a place to …

Planning For Danvers Dog Park Underway

Since receiving approval from Selectmen, the Danvers Dog Park Committee has entered its design, fundraising, and budgeting phases, but is seeking more members.

After receiving approval at the June 14 Board of Selectmen Meeting, and an adoption from the Friends of Danvers Recreation, the Danvers Dog Park Committee is currently in the designing, fundraising, and budgeting process.  The dog park, which has been approved for Endicott Park in the upper parking area adjacent to Dean's Lane, will require fencing, ground cover, trash receptacles and possible water fountains for both dogs and humans.  To complete the project, however, the committee is in need of more members. "In order for us to really, totally accomplish the goal we need more volunteers," said Gail Tyrell, chair person for the Dog Park Committee. "Dogs are an intricate part of everyone's lives these days.
