Danvers Fire Chief Kevin Farrell was released from jail and a stay at BayRidge Hospital in Lynn on personal recognizance, but his trial is set to begin next month, the Salem News reports. The 48-year-old Danvers Fire Chief was arrested June 26 following a domestic dispute with his estranged wife in Groveland. Farrell, a Groveland resident, was held at Middleton Jail for the weekend following his arrest, until a placement at a mental health treatment facility was available, despite a plea to go with family. For the remainder of the weekend or until a treatment facility for Kevin Farrell becomes available, the Danvers Fire Department Chief will be staying at Middleton Jail. Farrell, 48, was arrested early Wednesday morning following a domestic dispute with his estranged wife in Groveland. At today's dangerousness hearing at Haverhill District Court, Farrell's attorney Ben Richard asked Judge Stephen Abany to allow Farrell to stay with his sister in Danvers over the weekend, on condition that he would stay away from his ex-wife and his Groveland apartment, as well as wear a GPS ankle bracelet. Town Manager Wayne Marquis said he was aware of Kevin Farrell's marital difficulties and separation, as well as the restraining order his estranged wife had placed in 2010, before the town promoted him to the Danvers Fire Chief position in 2011. Marquis said Farrell will receive paid administrative leave. Marquis said he conferred with Town Counsel and will be conducting an investigation to gather more information. As result of an early morning reported assault, Danvers Fire Chief Kevin Farrell will be held without bail at Middleton Jail until Friday, when he will face a dangerousness hearing in Haverhill. Farrell, 49, of 43 Garrison St. in Groveland, was arraigned this morning at Haverhill District Court, after being arrested at 1:28 a.m. on charges of assault and intimidation of a witness. According to the Salem News, Farrell's 24-year-old daughter called police at 1:41 a.m. from 251 Center St. in Groveland, where his estranged wife lives. Danvers Fire Chief Kevin Farrell was arrested early Wednesday morning on domestic assault and battery charges as well as intimidation of a witness at his Groveland apartment. According to an article in the Salem News, the incident was called in by Farrell's daughter at 1:41 a.m. from 250 Center St. Groveland, where Farrell's wife lives. According to police there were no injuries to his wife and no weapon was used. Police began searching for Farrell and attempted to find him by "pinging" to determine the location of his cell phone, the Salem News reported. When that didn't work, they pinged Farrell's wife's cell phone and traced Farrell to the apartment in Groveland. Farrell was sworn in as Danvers Fire Chief in June 2011.
