Georgia Family Wins Patch's Deck the House Contest that Included Danvers Home

The Felix family from Dallas, GA received thousands of votes to win Patch's Deck the House contest and $100,000 for their local school district.

In this year's Deck the House contest, the second time was the charm. Joseph Felix's home in Dallas, Georgia outshined the other 24 finalists - including one from Danvers - to win the 2012 Deck the House contest and $100,000 for the Paulding County, Georgia school district. After placing second in the nationwide voting in the 2011 contest, the Felix home received nearly 11,000 votes this year to finally win Deck the House. The home, with 100,000 computer animated holiday lights choreographed to Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You," received about 300 more votes than a home in Coventry, R.I., which finished in second place. Who has the best “decked” house in Danvers? According to users who voted in our annual Deck the House contest, the Elliott family home on Arthur Street has the best holiday lights in Danvers. We had tons of national entries in this year’s Deck the House contest and in our quest to find the most over-the-top holiday decorations in the country, we’ve seen everything from a life-size Santa to holiday lights so bright they could blind the neighbors. And don’t worry about all those lights racking up the utility bill because if you’re voted a finalist, Patch will give you up to $500 to cover the expense. Deck The House Contest Results

Salem, Danvers and West Roxbury came close in the national contest.

  Local homeowners in Salem, Danvers and West Roxbury came close, but it was the Powell family of Davis, CA that was named the winner of the Deck the House contest. But since the prize is $100,000 to Davis, CA schools, Kristy Powell doesn't quite see it that way. “We all won,” she said. “There are a lot of needs at the schools. This is not going to fix it all, but it will help. This is a blessing.” Salem came in 10th place with 1,362 votes, Danvers came in 12th place with 850 votes and West Roxbury in 24th place with 238 votes. On Monday Powell was approached by a young girl at Birch Lane Elementary, where she teaches. The girl had an adorable suggestion for how the prize money should be spent.  "She said 'we need tether ball hooks,'" …
