How Much Fast Food is Too Much?

Do you like having all your major fast food options right in a row?

It's been five months now since the latest McDonald's franchise opened its doors in Danvers, conveniently located across from the Liberty Tree Mall and completing the lineup of major fast food chains available for customers on the go. This begs the question, does having McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's all lined up down Endicott -- and across from more restaurants at the mall -- offer more variety for consumers or merely a glut of very similar types of food? We're curious what you think. Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Temporary Sign Shows How McDonald's Visibility Could be Increased

There's a temporary sign up in front of McDonalds on Endicott Street to show the size and location of a proposed new sign that could help slumping sales.

A temporary sign up in front of the McDonalds restaurant on Endicott Streetthis week shows how a new sign might look if it was placed closer to the street - but lower. The temporary sign has been up for the past few days as a way to show members of the Zoning Board of Appeals what the sign would look like if it granted approval. McDonalds has a request before the board for it to approve the move, which would mean a sign the same size as its existing sign would be placed closer to the street, in a spot where a parking space is located now. Restaurant officials told the board last week that the sign is so far back from the street now that drivers have a tough time seeing the sign, and an even harder time seeing the restaurant. The reduced …

I went to that Taco Bell last week and did notice the Wendy's, BK, and Taco Bell signs are much more advantageously positioned. However I'd rather see all three of them moved back than see McD's moved up. Big plastic primary color signs right on the street don't do the towns image justice.   more ›

Sales Falling Short at New McDonalds, Prompts Request to Move Sign

The newest McDonalds has seen sales fall below projects prompting a request to town officials to have the restaurant's sign moved to a new location to increase visibility.

Since the fourth McDonalds in Danvers opened in November, sales of everything from McMuffins to Big Macs have been so low that management is looking for new ways to increase it. One idea? Move the sign closer to the street and add a message board. The plans were first presented to the Zoning Board of Appeals on Monday night during a meeting at the Senior Center. Board members said they want to see firsthand where the sign will go and how high it will be and have put off a final decision until they see the exact sign location "staked out" at the Endicott Street restaurant. The newest McDonalds in Danvers - the fourth in town - opened in November. When new McDonalds restaurants open, sales are usually high and then settle close to the …

Wayne Marquis is a great Town Manager. I wish that Hamilton/Wenham would follow suit, we would not have so many school budget challenges. Danvers is a thriving well funded town, what's the disconnect ?   more ›

Fourth McDonalds Restaurant in Danvers Now Open

The newest McDonalds restaurant in Danvers opened on Monday.

Danvers now has four McDonalds restaurants. The newest location opened last Monday on Endicott Street. It is the second new fast food restaurant to open along the same stretch of Endicott Street in the past year. A Taco Bell replaced a former Midas earlier this year. It is the fourth McDonalds restaurant location in Danvers. There are also McDonalds on Andover Street (Route 114), on High Street and at the Liberty Tree Mall food court. The new location will be open 24 hours a day, the same as the Route 114 and High Street locations. The new restaurant has hired between 45-60 new employees, said Brittany Topham, a McDonalds spokeswoman. The grand opening is scheduled for Friday at 10:30 a.m. with a ribbon cutting. Topham said that a check …

Well since nothing has stuck around (or even opened) in that spot since York Steakhouse closed., we obviously couldn't do way better than McDonalds. I don't like it, but at least it's not a row of abandoned buildings anymore.   more ›

Are There Too Many Fast Food Restaurants in Danvers?

Taco Bell was the town's most recent addition to the fast food options and another McDonalds is expected soon.

The fourth McDonalds restaurant in Danvers is nearing a grand opening on Endicott Street - the second new fast food restaurant on the road in the past year. It will be added to Taco Bell, which recently opened, plus Burger King and Wendy's. McDonalds is opening at the former site of the Crab House. And for a time there was a proposal to open a Margarita's restaurant on the property, but it was withdrawn. McDonalds is planning a late October or early November opening but an exact date is still in the works, according to McDonalds spokeswoman Courtney Mahoney. Fast food restaurants are often found together in many communities. But are there too many along Endicott Street? If so, what else would you prefer? Tell us in the comments.

Welcome to Moms Talk Q&A. Each week in Moms Talk, our Moms Council of experts and smart moms take your questions, give advice and share solutions. Moms, dads, grandparents and the diverse families who make up our community will have a new resource for questions about local neighborhood schools, the best pediatricians, 24-hour pharmacies and the thousands of other issues that arise while raising children. Question: "With childhood obesity getting major publicity in the media, what are your thoughts on keeping kids healthy? " Amanda My children are both very well porportioned, aside from when they were born as large babies and were off the charts chubby as infants (which was magically cured when they started walking!) We have never had to …
