CDC Says the Season Is Here: Where to Get Flu Shots in Danvers

Here's where to get an influenza vaccine, how to recognize symptoms and what to know about treatment if you get sick.

Flu season is coming early in parts of the United States: This time last year, flu cases were lower in Danvers than they are now, according to data on Google's Flu Trends. While Danvers-specific data is not available, flu cases are up right now over the same time last year in the greater-Boston area, according to Google's Flu Trends. Overall in Massachusetts, activity is considered high now, while it was considered low at this time in 2011, according to Flu Trends. Following CDC Warning, Danvers Health Officials Urge Residents To Get Flu Vaccine

Free flu clinic being offered for Danvers residents at Senior Center on Wednesday, Dec. 12.

The first case of influenza has already been reported in Danvers, and this year is shaping up to be one of the worst flu seasons in a while, officials from the CDC said in a teleconference last week. Influenza—more commonly known as simply "the flu"—is a contagious respiratory illness caused by viruses infecting the nose, throat and lungs. It spreads via infected people coughing, sneezing or talking, though people can also get infected by touching something with the flu virus on it before touching their mouth, eyes or nose. Flu Shot Clinic for Danvers Residents The town of Danvers has 153 flu shots remaining, and on Dec. 13, will host a flu clinic from 5-7 p.m. at the Senior Center on Stone Street.
