AAA Southern New England said its survey of prices in Massachusetts on Tuesday found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.77 per gallon in the Boston metro area. If you purchase 16 gallons of gas and save 10 cents by driving to a different gas station you are only saving $1.60. Since it costs 50 - 60 cents a mile to operate a vehicle the most you should drive out of your way is less than 1.5 miles (assuming you'll have to drive 1.5 miles to get back on track for a total of 3 miles). This also assumes however that your time is worth almost nothing.   more ›
