Crash Closes Intersection, Cuts Power

A tractor trailer that crashed into an utility pole near the Liberty Tree Mall has closed a small portion of the road and cut power to some of the area on Wednesday morning.

A portion of Commonwealth Avenue and Federal Street near the Liberty Tree Mall are closed on Wednesday morning after a tractor-trailer struck an utility pole, knocking down live wires. The incident occurred just before 10 a.m. and as of 11 a.m. Danvers police and mall security were redirecting drivers away from the area. The top of the utility pole at the intersection of the two roads, which contained a streetlight, had snapped off and fallen, hanging a few feet above the street. Drivers coming down Commonwealth Avenue from Endicott Street were being redirected down Independence Way, toward the mall. Drivers coming up Federal Street from Sylvan Street were being redirected into the parking lots at either the restaurant or Dick’s Sporting …

Just curious…how many poles were there in that spot? At least 2, like the rest of the town? Will they put up a third or actually replace it? Danvers looks a bit trashy with all the double/triple poles….   more ›
