Potentially Damaging Winds to Move in Wednesday night

A high wind watch has been issued for Wednesday night because of the possibility of wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour.

Wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour on Wednesday night could bring down trees and power lines, warns the National Weather Service. A high wind watch was issued on Tuesday at 4:42 p.m. by the weather service on Taunton for much of coastal and eastern Massachusetts, including Danvers, because the south-southwest winds at 20-30 mph could gust to 60 mph. The high wind watch means that the potential exists for strong and damaging winds in Danvers.  The strong winds could bring down trees and power lines as well as cause property damage, the weather service said. Damaging Winds Could Blow Around Holiday Decorations During Approaching Storm

Strong wind gusts are expected as part of an approaching storm, starting on Wednesday night and lasting into Thursday.

A high wind warning and coastal flood advisory have both been issued as a strong winter storm approaches Danvers on Wednesday night. The coastal flood advisory - which runs from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursday - was issued at 3:51 p.m. on Wednesday and the high wind warning – which runs from 10 p.m. on Wednesday through 11 a.m. on Thursday - was issued at 4:10 p.m. on Wednesday by the National Weather Service in Taunton. Both the warning and the advisory run along the Massachusetts coast from the New Hampshire state line to Cape Cod. While only a small amount of snow is expected to accumulate before the changeover to rain, wind will be the big impact for Danvers. Warning Issued for Damaging Winds, Possibility of Severe Thunderstorm

The National Weather Service is warning of the possibility of a severe thunderstorm and damaging winds on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

There’s a severe thunderstorm warning in place for Danvers on Tuesday night and early Wednesday, meaning there’s a chance of a strong thunderstorm moving through the area. The National Weather Service issued the watch at 7:55 p.m. on Tuesday. There had also been a wind advisory in place, but at 7:31 p.m. it was upgraded to a high wind warning. The severe thunderstorm watch extends across most of eastern and central Massachusetts, including Danvers, plus portions of southern New Hampshire, northern Connecticut and most of Rhode Island. It runs until 3 a.m. on Wednesday. The watch means that conditions are favorable for the formation of a severe thunderstorm.
