Put your leaves and yard waste at the curb in bags or barrels this coming week. JRM will pick up leaves and yard waste on regular trash days.
If you have more leaves and yard waste to dispose of, you're in luck -- another week of spring curbside collection starts Monday and there's no extra charge. Residents can leave their yard waste and leaves at the curb in paper bags or barrels on their normal trash pickup day. Branches and twigs can be bundled together, but no yard waste in plastic bags will be accepted. If you miss your collection day this week, you can also haul the bags and barrels over to the Transfer Station between 7 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday or Friday. You do need to purchase a $15 Brush Sticker at the Town Clerk's office at Town Hall or at the Department of Public Works' Business Division on 2 Burroughs St. The sticker is for unlimited brush/yard waste…

A Route 128 overpass was struck by a trash truck on Friday morning.
A trash truck crashed into a Route 128 overpass on Friday morning, prompting an inspection by workers from the state Department of Transportation. The inspection found no major damage to the bridge, said MassDOT spokesman Michael Verseckes. Verseckes said MassDOT was notified that a vehicle had made contact with the bridge that carries Route 128 over Route 62/Elliott Street at about 10:30 a.m. on Friday. "Inspectors were dispatched to the bridge immediately and were able to determine that the damage was minor in nature," Verseckes said. "From here, MassDOT will finalize a bridge inspection report, and determine whether any repairs are necessary." The crash happened at about 9:30 a.m. when a JRM Hauling and Recyling truck headed westbound …

Trash and recycling pickup will not be completed on Friday in Danvers.
Trash and recycling collection in Danvers was suspended on Friday morning because of safety concerns. The Danvers Department of Public Works made the announcement at 10:27 a.m. on Friday. "If your Friday trash and recycling has not been picked up yet, please take it in," the DPW said in its alert. Any trash and recycling that was not picked up on Friday will be picked up on Monday. "Please have it out by 7 a.m. on Monday, March 11," the DPW said. Initially, the DPW said that trash pickup would happen on Friday and some pickup did happen. But the safety concerns related to the snowstorm prompted it to be halted.
The overnight snowstorm has prompted some residents to ask whether trash pickup will still happen on Friday.
Editor's note: This story has been updated. Trash delivery was suspended on Friday morning. Trash collection will happen as usual on Friday in Danvers, according to the Department of Public Works. Crews from JRM Hauling and Recycling are out and about on Friday morning making collections. At least one resident said on the Danvers Patch Facebook page that her trash had already been collected at about 7:30 a.m.

Welcome to “5 Things,” your daily resource for community events, happenings in town and other little tidbits of information. Here are five things you need to know on Monday, Feb. 11. 1. Wet: Some snow, sleet and freezing rain may fall to start the day on Monday before everything changes over to rain. The temperature will eventually rise into the low 40s. 2. Storm: After seeing on TV some of the damage and power outages in some areas of the South Shore, we should feel lucky on Monday. Gov. Patrick has plans to visit both Marshfield and Scituate on Monday morning to meet with local officials and tour the damaged areas. Here in Danvers, nobody lost power through the storm, according to the Electric Department. 3. Mail: Mail delivery will …

It was dumb to say trash would be picked up Friday in the snow. I knew they could not do it safely. Now we will have trash mixed with the snow or an ugly mess.   more ›
