Lahey Health System, affiliation between Lahey and Northeast Health System, goes into effect May 1 with all regulatory approvals in hand.
The joining of Lahey Clinic and Northeast Health Systems becomes official May 1, following approval by state officials in March. The Salem News reported that all 15 members of the state's public health council, which is chaired by Public Health Commissioner John Auerbach, unanimously signed off on the affiliation between the two hospital networks on March 21. The new Lahey Health System is now a $1.3 billion enterprise touted to strengthen both organizations and expand care and services across the region and into southern New Hampshire. Certain key services at Northeast Health System hospitals will be kept for three years, all jobs will be retained for at least one year and the new Lahey Health System will look to expand further.
Under the pending merger between Lahey Clinic and Northeast Health System, officials from both organizations are committing to retaining certain key clinical services at Beverly Hospital and Addison Gilbert Hospital for three years after the deal and all employees for at least a year, according to news reports. The Salem News reported on Tuesday that the newly disclosed details of the proposed merger have been filed with the state Department of Public Health as part of its review. The DPH, Federal Trade Commission and the state Attorney General's office will need to sign off on the merger before it becomes binding. The Lahey Clinic Foundation and Northeast Health System, which operates Beverly Hospital and other area medical facilities, are merging to form a new healthcare network.
Northeast Health System and the Lahey Clinic Foundation announced on Tuesday that Beverly Hospital and the six other medical facilities operated by NHS will be merging with Lahey to create a new hospital network stretching across the northeastern part of Massachusetts. Lahey, which is headquartered in Burlington, is not absorbing NHS, instead a new healthcare organization is being formed. Lahey is a highly regard teaching hospital of Tufts University. The new entity will be called Lahey Health System and led by Howard Grant, JD, MD, as President and CEO — Grant is the current CEO of the Lahey Clinic Foundation.
