The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is still waiting to hear from Cordish Companies about where it wants to locate a proposed slots parlor in the state. One possible site the company has considered in the Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers. The other company that had not announced a location for its planned slots parlor, Mass Gaming and Entertainment LLC, has confirmed that they plan to pursue a project in Worcester, according to the Gaming Commission's Division of Investigations and Enforcement. "They did not specify an exact location," said the commission's spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll. The Cordish Company, the developer that wants a casino license in Massachusetts, said on Tuesday that it is seeking a slots license. The company had been given a deadline of Monday to tell the state Gaming Commission whether it is seeking a slots license or resort casino license. Gaming Commission spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll said on Tuesday that Cordish will seek a slots license. The company has not said where it hopes to build the slots parlor and it has not been required yet to tell state regulators where it wants it to be located. The state Gaming Commission has set Monday as the deadline for all companies to decide whether it is seeking a resort casino license or slots parlor license.
Monday is the first hard deadline for The Cordish Companies and its subsidiary PPE Casino Resorts MA - the company that has been eyeing Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers for a possible slots parlor. The deadline was set just last Monday. It applies to both PPE Casino Resort and Rush Street Gaming, two of the 11 applicants that have not said whether they seek a resort casino license or slots license. Cordish and its PPE subsidiary have been considering a plan for a 100,000 square foot, 1,250 slots complex that would be built at Liberty Tree Mall. The company eyeing Liberty Tree Mall as the site of the state’s only slots parlor has a week to decide whether it will indeed seek a slots license, the Boston Herald is reporting on Monday afternoon. Later, in a press release, Massachusetts Gaming Commission spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll confirmed the report through a press release issued by the commission. There’s only one slots license up for grabs statewide and the state Gaming Commission has said it plans to award that license by the end of the year. Members of the Danvers Board of Selectmen plan to meet with a representatives of the Cordish Co. on Wednesday about the companies plans to possibly build a slots parlor at Liberty Tree Mall.
Representatives from the Cordish Co. plan to meet with members of the Board of Selectmen at Town Hall on Wednesday to go over plans to possibly build a slots parlor at Liberty Tree Mall. On Tuesday night, selectmen told about 60 people that filled the Toomey Meeting Room that they did not have any further details beyond what has been reported in the press. “We have no details and no further information,” said Selectman Gardner Trask. Selectmen plan to meet with a Cordish representative in groups of one or two on Wednesday to hear more details and ask questions. The proposal to build a slots parlor at Liberty Tree Mall is planned to be discussed for the first time on Tuesday by the Danvers Board of Selectmen, reports The Boston Globe. Members of the Board of Selectmen will also meet individually with representatives with PPE Casinos MA this week, the Globe reported. PPE Casinos is a subsidiary of the Cordish Co. of Maryland. This week news emerged that Danvers is being eyed as a possible location for the state's only slots parlor, but what are some of the possible competitors?
Until this week, there was just two announced proposals competing for the state's sole slots parlor license that could be issued as soon as the end of the year. Then this week, news broke that PPE Casino Resorts has inquired about the possibility of locating a 100,000 square foot, 1,200 machine slots parlor at Liberty Tree Mall.
