Casino Developer Postpones Public Meeting on Slots Parlor

The Maryland-based developer that has discussed a proposal to locate a slot parlor at Liberty Tree Mall will not hold a public meeting this week as once discussed.

There will not be a public meeting this week to hear more from the Maryland-based developer that has eyed Liberty Tree Mall as a possible location for a slots parlor. Town Manager Wayne Marquis said that a representative of The Cordish Companies - the developer that is reportedly interested in slots parlor at the mall - e-mailed him last week to say the company is postponing plans for a March 5 meeting at Danvers High School. The representative, Jeff Snyder, said he appreciated feedback he has received so far from town staff and the Board of Selectmen but plans to take more time preparing the presentation. "They said they needed to be comprehensive and thorough in any presentation they make to the community," Marquis said. The delay in the…

Cab Companies Given Fines, Told to Get Town License

The four cab companies that regularly operate in Danvers were fines on Tuesday and told they need a license to pick up passengers in Danvers.

There are no licensed cab companies in Danvers and on Tuesday night cabs operating in Danvers were given a $100 fine for picking up a fare in town, reports the Salem News. The cabs were called to the Liberty Tree Mall and when they arrived to pick up a passenger were given a $100 fine, the News said. "We were told if they see us in Danvers, we would be pulled over and be fined again,” the general manager of North Shore Taxi in Peabody Sean McKinnon told the paper. While any taxi companies can drop off fares in town, a license is needed to pick up in Danvers. The sting occurred after concern was raised with Police Chief Neil Oullette earlier this month by the Board of Selectmen. After a bylaw change in 2009, town officials got several …

Heather, I have to agree with you 100%. So, instead of calling cab companies, we should call Mike Powers 978-750-0543, Keith Lucy 978-777-5789, Dan Bennett 978-774-0296, Gardner Trask 978-774-1338 and Bill Clark 978-774-0550. I think we should have the patch send out a newslink with their phone numbers. Instead of calling the taxi companies, people needing a ride home can now call our selectman. …   more ›

Danvers Toddler Takes Diaper Derby Title [VIDEO]

The second annual Diaper Derby pitted the crawling skills on many North Shore babies on Saturday.

Quinn Doyle of Danvers raced to a win in the second annual Diaper Derby at Liberty Tree Mall on Sunday. The 11-month-old raced past about 40 other babies at the event. The race pitted crawling babies against each other in different heats through the morning. Each baby worked their way across padded mats on the floor in the Kohl's wing, with a parent, grandparent or friend at the start line and typically mom at the finish line with a binky, snack, balloon or other favorite item. Check the videos of several of the races to see the closest finish of the day and some runaway heat winners. A video has been removed from this story at the request of a parent.
