Spaghetti Dinner Thursday Night To Raise Money for Ma Duke's Thanksgiving Dinner

A spaghetti dinner hosted by All Saints Episcopal Church of the North Shore on Thursday night will help raise money to help feed 1,000 homeless and homebound people on Thanksgiving.

For the past six years, Debbie Marticio, owner of Ma Duke’s Pizza, Seafood and More at 139 Maple St. in Danvers has been celebrating Thanksgiving by giving. She and her husband, Mike, have been offering free holiday meals to homeless families, housebound residents, young people struggling with substance abuse at a Danvers treatment center and those living at the Inn Transition transitional housing in Peabody. Marticio has been making those free meals available as part of a coordinated effort among various agencies and restaurants to feed the needy during the holidays. According to Marticio, it costs between $10,000 and $11,000 to serve the free Thanksgiving meal at Ma Duke’s, and much of that comes from donations. But this year the open-…

Ma Duke's Closes After Electricity Shut Off

The downtown sub and pizza shop Ma Duke's has closed after its electricity was shut off after falling behind on payments.

Ma Duke's, a downtown mainstay that helps feed the hungry each Thanksgiving, had its electricity shut off for non-payment on Monday and has closed, the Salem News reports. Last year Ma Duke's owner Debbie Marticio organized a Thanksgiving dinner for the needy to feed about 1,000 people. Marticio told the News that this has been the worst year in the seven years she has owned the restauant, which is on Maple Street behind the former fire station that now houses Lyons Ambulance, near the corner of Locust and Hobart streets. Marticio opened the restaurant in 2007.
