A police chase ended with a crash in Danvers on Wednesday. How far should police go to pursue a fleeing suspect?
A police pursuit that started in Middleton and ended with a crash in Danvers on Wednesday prompted a conversation on Danvers Patch about when police should pursue a suspect. The crash hapenned at the intersection of Pine and Maple streets at about 9:05 a.m. It lasted about 4 miles from the center of Middleton and reached speeds up to 80 miles per hour, according to police. After the crash, the driver was arrested and faces 10 charges. Some users said that crash should not have continued through an area they said had heavy traffic and children going to school. A man behind the wheel of a car that crashed after a police pursuit into Danvers on Wednesday morning isn't giving officers any information about who he is.
Police are still working to identify the man behind the wheel of a car that crashed after a police pursuit that started in Middleton and ended in Danvers on Wednesday morning. Middleton Police Chief James DiGianvittorio said that the driver was hospitalized after the 9 a.m. crash at Maple and Pine streets in Danvers. The driver suffered minor injuries and had been released from the hospital as of 2:30 p.m. He was taken to the State Police barracks in Danvers, where officers planned to use the Automated Fingerprint Identification System to identify him. “He’s not giving us any info,” DiGianvittorio said. A water main break cut service to a small number of homes on Wednesday afternoon.
The five homes that lost water service on Wednesday afternoon because of a water main break are expected to have service restored by 8 p.m. The break of a 12-inch line occurred near the intersection of Maple and Vineyard streets. In addition to five homes, the break also affected one fire hydrant. Workers from the town’s Water Division were making repairs, as of 4:30 p.m., according to Bob Lee, the DPW’s director of operations. Lee said he expects the line will be repaired and water service restored by about 8 p.m.

The Danvers woman who was seriously injured when she was struck by a vehicle on Maple Street late last month has been released from the hospital.
The 32-year-old Danvers woman who was seriously injured when she was struck by a vehicle in a Maple Street crosswalk in late November has been released from the hospital. There are few other details available about the condition of Zahra Amjadi, who suffered life-threatening injuries in the Nov. 29 accident. Ryan Donovan, a spokesman for Massachusetts General Hospital, said Amjadi has been released but no further details were available. She was taken to Mass. The investigation continues into a crash that seriously injured a pedestrian that was crossing Maple Street on Thursday morning.
The driver who struck a pedestrian that was crossing Route 62 on Thursday morning has been issued a traffic ticket. Danvers police said on Thursday afternoon that Gailute Urbonaite-Narkeviciene, 44, of 281 Maple St. was issued a citation for failure to yield in a crosswalk, according to Danvers Police Capt. Patrick Ambrose. Urbonaite-Narkeviciene was driving east on Route 62 in a Lexus sport utility vehicle at the time of the crash with a passenger in the vehicle. Neither of them were injured. The crash happened at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday on a section of Maple Street that is also Route 62, near the intersection with Burley Avenue. One of the drivers in Wednesday's serious car crash in Danvers will be issued a summons.
One of the driver’s involved in Wednesday afternoon’s head-on crash on Route 62 will be issued a summons for operating negligently. The crash happened at 3:55 p.m. in front of the Danvers Animal Hospital when a blue 1999 Toyota Rav 4 headed eastbound crossed the centerline and slammed head-on into a white 2012 Mercedes GLK350 that was headed westbound, according to Danvers Police Chief Neil Ouellette. Police did not release the name of the driver who was issued a summons – and was also injured – or anyone else involved in the crash.
