Restaurant Week Coming Up and a New McDonalds Sign That May Boost Sales Among North Shore Food Buzz

A round up of North Shore restaurant and food news.

When you're looking for a night out and a break from cooking, you might want to know what's new not only where you live, but also in other North Shore communities. Here's our round up of the area's latest food news: Loyal readers of the North Shore Food Buzz might remember a recent item we had about McDonald's — I like to call it "The Scottish Restaurant" — complaining about sales at their fourth Danvers location. They didn't think that the disappointing numbers were because they'd saturated the Big Mac market with four franchises in one town. Instead they fingered their lack of a sign on fast-food-heavy Endicott Street. Well, the sign they wanted has been approved. Danvers Patch has all the details. You don't have to go to Boston to …

McDonalds Gets New Sign It Says Will Help Boost Sales

McDonalds has received an OK for a new sign closer to the street that the restaurant requested four months after opening in hopes of increasing sales.

The shorter sign closer to the street that McDonalds says will boost sales has been approved at McDonalds on Endicott Street. The approval was granted last week by the Danvers Zoning Board of Appeals. The board did not have a problem with the sign's new location, but did express concerns about the sign's electronic message center on one half. The board set a limit on the electronic message half of the sign, saying that the message can not flash or change and can be changed once a day. At least one board member said the board's permission for the electronic sign could open the door for similar requests for a similar sign from other businesses along the street. The restaurant chain first came before the board last month asking for a new sign…

Temporary Sign Shows How McDonald's Visibility Could be Increased

There's a temporary sign up in front of McDonalds on Endicott Street to show the size and location of a proposed new sign that could help slumping sales.

A temporary sign up in front of the McDonalds restaurant on Endicott Streetthis week shows how a new sign might look if it was placed closer to the street - but lower. The temporary sign has been up for the past few days as a way to show members of the Zoning Board of Appeals what the sign would look like if it granted approval. McDonalds has a request before the board for it to approve the move, which would mean a sign the same size as its existing sign would be placed closer to the street, in a spot where a parking space is located now. Restaurant officials told the board last week that the sign is so far back from the street now that drivers have a tough time seeing the sign, and an even harder time seeing the restaurant. The reduced …

I went to that Taco Bell last week and did notice the Wendy's, BK, and Taco Bell signs are much more advantageously positioned. However I'd rather see all three of them moved back than see McD's moved up. Big plastic primary color signs right on the street don't do the towns image justice.   more ›

Sales Falling Short at New McDonalds, Prompts Request to Move Sign

The newest McDonalds has seen sales fall below projects prompting a request to town officials to have the restaurant's sign moved to a new location to increase visibility.

Since the fourth McDonalds in Danvers opened in November, sales of everything from McMuffins to Big Macs have been so low that management is looking for new ways to increase it. One idea? Move the sign closer to the street and add a message board. The plans were first presented to the Zoning Board of Appeals on Monday night during a meeting at the Senior Center. Board members said they want to see firsthand where the sign will go and how high it will be and have put off a final decision until they see the exact sign location "staked out" at the Endicott Street restaurant. The newest McDonalds in Danvers - the fourth in town - opened in November. When new McDonalds restaurants open, sales are usually high and then settle close to the …

Wayne Marquis is a great Town Manager. I wish that Hamilton/Wenham would follow suit, we would not have so many school budget challenges. Danvers is a thriving well funded town, what's the disconnect ?   more ›

Fourth McDonalds Restaurant in Danvers Now Open

The newest McDonalds restaurant in Danvers opened on Monday.

Danvers now has four McDonalds restaurants. The newest location opened last Monday on Endicott Street. It is the second new fast food restaurant to open along the same stretch of Endicott Street in the past year. A Taco Bell replaced a former Midas earlier this year. It is the fourth McDonalds restaurant location in Danvers. There are also McDonalds on Andover Street (Route 114), on High Street and at the Liberty Tree Mall food court. The new location will be open 24 hours a day, the same as the Route 114 and High Street locations. The new restaurant has hired between 45-60 new employees, said Brittany Topham, a McDonalds spokeswoman. The grand opening is scheduled for Friday at 10:30 a.m. with a ribbon cutting. Topham said that a check …

Well since nothing has stuck around (or even opened) in that spot since York Steakhouse closed., we obviously couldn't do way better than McDonalds. I don't like it, but at least it's not a row of abandoned buildings anymore.   more ›

Are There Too Many Fast Food Restaurants in Danvers?

Taco Bell was the town's most recent addition to the fast food options and another McDonalds is expected soon.

The fourth McDonalds restaurant in Danvers is nearing a grand opening on Endicott Street - the second new fast food restaurant on the road in the past year. It will be added to Taco Bell, which recently opened, plus Burger King and Wendy's. McDonalds is opening at the former site of the Crab House. And for a time there was a proposal to open a Margarita's restaurant on the property, but it was withdrawn. McDonalds is planning a late October or early November opening but an exact date is still in the works, according to McDonalds spokeswoman Courtney Mahoney. Fast food restaurants are often found together in many communities. But are there too many along Endicott Street? If so, what else would you prefer? Tell us in the comments.

Tell Us: Does McDonald's Calorie Announcement Change Your Mind?

McDonald's will post calorie information starting Monday.

Is ignorance bliss? McDonald's restaurants in the U.S. will soon get a new menu addition: The number of calories in the chain's burgers and fries, according to the Huffington Post. The world's biggest hamburger chain said Wednesday that it will post calorie information on restaurant and drive-thru menus nationwide starting Monday. The move comes ahead of a regulation that could require major chains to post the information as early as next year. "We want to voluntarily do this," said Jan Fields, president of McDonald's USA. "We believe it will help educate customers." So we want to know: Will the calorie content postings change what you order? Will it make you more likely to stop at McDonalds?
