Public Schools, St. Mary's and Aggie Closed on Monday

Danvers public schools will be closed on Monday.

Danvers Public Schools will be closed on Monday as the cleanup from the blizzard continues, according to a post on its Facebook page at 6:08 p.m. The schools will be closed "for the safety of our students who ride our buses and walk to school," the district said in the post. Essex Agricultural School, St. Mary of the Annunciation school, St. John's Prep and Clark School will also be closed on Monday, according to a list of school closings compiled by Fox 25 and posts to the school's Facebook pages. It will mean a four day weekend for those students. North Shore Community College will be open on Monday, as of 6:30 p.m. North Shore Regional Vocational School in Middleton will also be closed on Monday. Locally, Beverly, Peabody and Salem …

Plow Catches Fire, CO Detector Provides Early Warning During Blizzard

The driving ban kept major problems to a minimum during the blizzard on Friday and Saturday in Danvers.

A snowplow caught fire early Saturday morning and a carbon monoxide detector gave an early warning to one family that their furnace vent was blocked with snow during the blizzard in Danvers. Besides that, the Blizzard of 2013 caused very few problems in Danvers. First responders said that the driving ban, which lasted for 24 hours under executive order of Gov. Deval Patrick, helped out, they said. “We found pretty much everyone abiding by the ban,” said Danvers Police Lt. Dana Milne. On Twitter, several tweets lauded the plowing of Danvers streets. Andrew Gallione noted that Danvers streets were clear and there was still snow on Beverly roads. Mary Beth Perry tweeted that Danvers roads were "perfection" and called them the best on the …

Blizzard Warning Issued, White Out Expected

White out conditions are expected as the storm intensifies through Friday and into Saturday.

What began as a blizzard watch for Danvers on Wednesday has now been upped to a blizzard warning on Thursday afternoon.  The National Weather Service issued the warning for the majority of eastern Massachusetts on Thursday afternoon, as it anticipates about 2 feet of snow to descend upon the area Friday into Saturday. "White out conditions are anticipated as roads become snow-covered by the Friday evening commute," the warning states. "Strong north-northeast winds are anticipated with gusts up to around 60 miles per hour, resulting in blowing and drifting of snow. Damage to trees and structures along with scattered power outages are anticipated." Residents can expect the potential of snow falling at 3-to-4 inches per hour and wind gusts of…

Deval Patrick is about to announce that the driving ban for Danvers will be lifted at 4 p.m. Saturday, 12:50 p.m.: Two westbound lanes on Route 114 are blocked near Saturday, 12:31 p.m.: Kappy's announces it will not open on Saturday and will reopen at noon on Sunday.
