RMV: No More License Renewal Email Reminders

The RMV has discontinued the service because the company that provided the reminders was sold.

Five years after the Registry of Motor Vehicles did away with U.S. Mail license expiration reminders, Massachusetts drivers will now find that the email version is gone as well. The RMV, which has a branch in Danvers at Liberty Tree Mall, has done away with email reminders which service drivers whose licenses are about to expire, according to CBS Local. The RMV stopped mailing reminders in November 2008. The company that provided the service was recently sold, according to WBZ. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is looking into restoring the free service and alternative reminder methods, the story says.

Sickness, Snowdays Bump Wait Time to an Hour at Danvers Registry Monday

Some drivers at the Registry of Motor Vehicles in Danvers waited as long as an hour because of staff shortages due to sickness and snowdays at schools.

A combination of sickness and snowdays boosted the wait time at the Registry of Motor Vehicle branch in Danvers to the longest waits in the state earlier this week. On Twitter, several users complained on Monday that just one of eight windows was open at the Registry branch inside Liberty Tree Mall. The aftermath of the blizzard combined to cause 3 of the 11 employees in Danvers to be out on Monday because of school closings, power outages and difficult driving conditions, said Registry of Motor Vehicles spokeswoman Sara Lavoie. Lavoie said there was more than just one window open and that three to four windows were kept open. "Wait times spiked because of the low staffing level (Monday)," Lavoie said. "Customers were waiting for …

Registry Branch Closes Friday Because of Computer Problems

The Registry of Motor Vehicles branch at the Liberty Tree Mall is closed on Friday because of computer problems.

The Danvers branch of the state Registry of Motor Vehicles is closed all day on Friday because of computer problems. The branch is located inside the Liberty Tree Mall. RMV spokeswoman Sara Lavoie said that it was “a technical issue that prevents us from accessing and inputting customer information into our licensing and registration systems” that caused the closure. It is scheduled to reopen at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. "We will be working to resolve the issue prior to Tuesday’s opening," she said. No other branches north of Boston are affected. The branch in Plymouth closed at noon on Friday because of a similar problem. The Registry is encouraging people to do their transactions online or use another RMV branch.
