An 18-year-old North Reading male was identified as the sole victim in a fatal car crash this morning on Route 128 in Danvers.
State police have identified the victim in this morning's fatal car crash as 18-year-old Timothy Chaloux of North Reading. State police confirm Chaloux was driving a 2011 Honda Civic on the southbound side of Route 128 in Danvers when the car veered off the roadway near Exit 23 and into a wooded area. The car came to a stop on an embankment leading toward Home Depot at the Liberty Tree Mall. Troopers assigned to the Danvers barracks responded to the scene at approximately 6:55 a.m., along with Danvers police and firefighters, after receiving a call from someone who spotted the vehicle in the woods. State police said Chaloux sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. No indication was given as to what …
A car rolled over on the southbound side of the highway Saturday morning, leaving one person trapped inside who was later pronounced dead at the scene.
One male was killed when his car rolled over Saturday morning on Route 128 southbound in Danvers. Danvers police and fire, along with state police, responded to the scene, which was between High Street (Exit 23) and Endicott Street (Exit 24), shortly before 7 a.m. The Jaws of Life was requested to try and free the trapped driver. According to reports, the vehicle was a 2011 Honda Civic and the victim was trapped for about 20 minutes before finally being freed. At that time, the male was pronounced dead at the scene. A Route 128 overpass was struck by a trash truck on Friday morning.
A trash truck crashed into a Route 128 overpass on Friday morning, prompting an inspection by workers from the state Department of Transportation. The inspection found no major damage to the bridge, said MassDOT spokesman Michael Verseckes. Verseckes said MassDOT was notified that a vehicle had made contact with the bridge that carries Route 128 over Route 62/Elliott Street at about 10:30 a.m. on Friday. "Inspectors were dispatched to the bridge immediately and were able to determine that the damage was minor in nature," Verseckes said. "From here, MassDOT will finalize a bridge inspection report, and determine whether any repairs are necessary." Multiple car crashes on Route 128 are causing congestion through Danvers and neighboring communities on Wednesday.
It is slow-going on Route 128 through Danvers on Wednesday night because of car crashes in both directions. One crash happened on Route 128 southbound near exit 22 for Route 62. The other crash happened northbound between (exit 24) Endicott Street and exit 23 (Route 35/High Street). Injuries were reportedly not major with either crash but that the northbound crash left a “debris field.” The first crash was reported at about 5:15 p.m. Traffic on the southbound was slow and backed up to exit 21. On the northbound side, traffic was at a near-standstill back to exit 44 on I-95 at the split for Route 128 in Peabody. Route 128 southbound in Peabody is closed on Wednesday night while State Police investigate a rollover car crash. An elderly male was been hospitalized after his vehicle rolled over on Route 128 under the Route 114 overpass. In a media alert issued at 9:15 p.m. State Police called it a "serious motor vehicle crash." The accident was first called in shortly before 9 p.m. and occurred on the southbound side of the highway near Exit 25A, which leads onto Route 114 eastbound. The road was closed southbound at exit 25B and traffic was being directed on to Route 114 westbound. Westbound traffic on Route 114 was also being blocked from getting on Route 128 southbound. Four people, all reportedly with minor injuries, were taken by ambulance to the hospital after a car cash during the rush hour on Wednesday evening. The crash occurred at about 4:45 p.m. on High Street near the Route 128 overpass at exit 23. It involved two cars and a total of five people. One person refused medical attention and four others were taken by Lyons ambulance to Beverly Hospital. A two car crash on Route 128 closed the northbound lanes for nearly an hour on Tuesday night. The crash occurred before 11 p.m. between the exit 22 exit ramp to Route 62 (Elliott Street) and the northbound on-ramp from Route 62. Initial reports from the scene said that there were three people involved in the crash. The driver of one of the vehicle was trapped in their car and had to be freed by the Danvers Fire Department by the Jaws of Life. Lyons ambulance took that person to Beverly Hospital. Work will continue on Route 128 and several Danvers streets this week and into the fall.
One lane will be closed in both directions on Route 128 in both directions near exit 23 for the rest of the week, which will cause backups and slow-going much like the congestion that was seen on Wednesday. On Wednesday, state Transportation Department spokeswoman Sara Lavoie said a contractor had the right travel lane and breakdown lane closed on the northbound side to install pavement millings beneath the guardrail. On the southbound side, the contractor had the high speed (left) lane closed to remove debris from the area where the temporary barrier had been located. All of the major portions of the Route 128 reconstruction project are in use, so which portions are working and which portions would you have designed differently?
The Route 128 construction project, which has installed new ramps, traffic lights and made safety improvements at exits 22 and 23, is almost done. The changes have taken some getting used to. There's been a lot of discussion and feedback about how it has worked out. Most of us are not professional traffic engineers, but as drivers we all have our own opinion about what we think works and what does not.
