Commuters, Shoppers Combine for Three 128 Crashes in an Hour

There were no major injuries but significant traffic backups when three car crashes happened during the period of about 50 minutes along a section of Route 128 in Danvers on Wednesday.

Three car crashes along less than a mile stretch of Route 128 during rush hour on Wednesday night caused significant congestion during one of the final shopping days before Christmas. It all started at just about 5 p.m. when one car smashed into the back of another car on Route 128 southbound just north of exit 22. Nobody was injured in that crash, but it was the first of three crashes that culminated in a five-mile long backup of traffic on the northbound side of the road, stretching from near the Beverly line back to the I-95/Route 128 split in Peabody. State Police said there was no single thing that contributed to all the crashes, which were reported during a 50 minute period along a mile stretch of Route 128 roughly between Endicott …

Dear Sean, Apparently the evening rush hour is a dangerous time to be out on the roads. Perhaps you should follow my lead and enjoy a delicious dinner during the evening rush! You'll never get in a wreck while you are seated in a comfortable chair at home! Les........:)   more ›

Route 128 Plugged After Multiple Crashes

Multiple car crashes on Route 128 are causing congestion through Danvers and neighboring communities on Wednesday.

It is slow-going on Route 128 through Danvers on Wednesday night because of car crashes in both directions. One crash happened on Route 128 southbound near exit 22 for Route 62. The other crash happened northbound between (exit 24) Endicott Street and exit 23  (Route 35/High Street). Injuries were reportedly not major with either crash but that the northbound crash left a “debris field.” The first crash was reported at about 5:15 p.m. Traffic on the southbound was slow and backed up to exit 21. On the northbound side, traffic was at a near-standstill back to exit 44 on I-95 at the split for Route 128 in Peabody. Another crash was reported on the northbound side just past exit 22 just before 6 p.m. Danvers police, fire and Lyons ambulance …

You misunderstand. I'm not blaming anyone. I'm merely calling upon the Danvers Police force to address the very serious issues that have led to the MULTIPLE and avoidable accidents. Merry Christmas.   more ›

You are absolutely correct Mr. Ward! The State of Massachusetts really needs to look and reevaluate the surroundings of where the work is being done and where it actually should be done. There definitely has been more than enough accidents since all this construction has been started! This has become a more dangerous intersection than it actually was before!   more ›

I think they need to hurry up that construction before more people are killed. I can't tell you how many times people have "drifted lanes" at me there, to the point where I am now taking Exit 22 to get to Liberty St.   more ›
