Salem Five Bank Establishes Fund for Local Victims of Marathon Bombing

The bank is providing a way to help two families with Salem connections who suffered injuries in Monday's terror attacks.

Salem Five Bank, which has two branches in Danvers, has set up funds to help two families with Salem roots that fell victim to the Monday bombing at the Boston Marathon: The Richards and the Woolfendens. Martin Richard, 8, died in Monday's bombing. His father is Bill Richard, a 1988 graduate of Salem High School. His daughter, Jane, lost a leg in the attack and his wife, Denise, also suffered serious injuries. The family lives in Dorchester. Stephen and Leo Woolfenden of Salem were also hurt in the attack. On Thursday, 3-year-old Leo was released from Children's Hospital in Boston, according to the Chicago Tribune. Leo's mom, Amber, was running the race while the child and his father, Stephen, watched. What's Open, Closed on New Year's Day

A look at what businesses and offices are open and closed on Tuesday for New Year's Day.

Most businesses are open on New Year's Day on Tuesday, but your best bet is to call ahead. To find specific contact info for businesses in Danvers, use our Directory. Some businesses are opening late or have special hours for the holiday. Liberty Tree Mall has special hours and is open noon to 6 p.m. Liquor stores can also be open. Most bars, restaurants, convenience stores and retail stores are open and hours are at owner's discretion. Stop and Shop, for example, has regular hours of 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Danvers Town Hall is closed. Peabody Institute Library of Danvers is closed. State and federal offices are also closed. Hazardous Waste: The Danvers Department of Public Works is hosting its annual hazardous waste collection day on Saturday.
