Libertarian Candidate Files Complaint Against WCVB

Libertarian Congressional candidate Daniel Fishman has been left out of a debate, and he's not backing down.

Libertarian Congressional candidate Daniel Fishman has filed a complaint against WCVB with the Federal Elections Commission. WCVB is planning a 6th District congressional candidates' debate on Thursday, and Fishman was not invited because he did not meet their criteria: A candidate must have a certain number of staff members, a daily campaign schedule, communicate on a regular basis with news media, garner at least 10 percent in two recent independent polls and have campaign contributions of at least $50,000. The debate will include U.S. Rep. John Tierney (D-Salem) and Republican challenger Richard Tisei, the two major party candidates seeking the seat in the Sixth Congressional District, which includes Danvers.  Fishman's complaint …

Tierney Turns Up the Heat, Calls Tisei 'Shameless' and 'Irrelevant'

Congressman John Tierney called his opponent, Richard Tisei, "shameless" and "irrelevant" in the most recent debate between the two candidates.

Democratic Congressman John Tierney brought sharpened teeth to debate with Republican opponent Richard Tisei on NECN during the past week, and he wasted no time digging in. Just one day after the 6th District congressional candidates gathered in North Andover for a debate, the two appeared on "The Broadside" with Jim Braude on Thursday evening and left most of the pleasantries at the door. Tierney faces an intense battle for reelection, with many polls showing Tisei either ahead of him or surging upward, and the eight-term congressman worked to aggressively take his opponent down a few notches Thursday -- attacking his decades-long state legislator record and calling him "shameless." Video of the entire debate can be watched on NECN's Web …

I am voting based upon record. John Tierney has a great record; and every time I have asked him anything anything I have received an honest answer. He truly cares about his constituents and I for one will be voting for him again. David M, the 2700 pages....those were all the compromises the Republicans made in this legislation. Congressional Candidates Talk Business at NAHS

The Sixth District Congressional debate on Wednesday was hosted by the Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Candidates in the Massachusetts 6th District congressional race -- U.S. Rep. John Tierney (D-Salem), Republican Richard Tisei and Libertarian Daniel Fishman -- gathered at North Andover High School to debate issues relating to small business and job growth. Hosted by the Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce and moderated by Chairman Sal Lupoli, the debate lasted about an hour and focused and - in what may at this point seem like a surprise - focused on policy issues instead of personal issues. Tierney's wife Patrice and her family legal issues were not even mentioned. Tierney faces an intense battle for reelection, as many polls have showed Tisei either ahead of him or surging upward. And Fishman has worked tirelessly to position himself …

Third-Party Congressional Candidate Calls Foul on WCVB

The Libertarian candidate in the Sixth Congressional District is not invited to attend a debate hosted by channel 5.

For a recent Fox 25 debate, John Tierney chose not to attend. But now, another local news station is asking another candidate to do the same. Libertarian candidate for Congress Daniel Fishman says that he doesn't qualify to participate in WCVB's hour-long debate to be held on Oct. 25. "My first reaction was shock," Fishman wrote on his Web site. "At each debate we have put on a strong performance, and at each debate our ranks have swelled. Our campaign has serious momentum." Fishman collected the required signatures by the deadline and will appear on the Nov. 6 ballot in the Sixth Congressional District, which includes Danvers. Only U.S. Rep. John Tierney (D-Salem) and Republican challenge Richard Tisei of Wakefield meet WCVB's criteia and…

Tierney Takes on Family Issues, Says Tisei is Using it 'To Get to Me'

The three candidates for the Sixth Congressional District debated at Danvers High School on Wednesday night.

Congressman John Tierney was the first one to bring up his wife’s family’s legal problems during Wednesday night’s debate, accusing Republican challenger Richard Tisei of attacking his wife’s family to get to him. It was an issue that was left out of the first debate involving the two in Lynn last week and a topic that the Boston Herald had previously reported would be left out of several debates at the request of Tierney, D-Salem. “You attacked my wife and her family as a way to get to me,” Tierney said to Tisei, who was seated on the opposite side of Libertarian candidate Daniel Fishman of Beverly on stage in the auditorium at Danvers High School. Tierney’s statement came in response to a question from Salem News Managing Editor Helen …

Congressional Debate to Go Ahead As Scheduled After Earlier Gas Leak

A gas leak on Wednesday afternoon at Danvers High School will not stop the Congressional debate planned for 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

The Congressional debate scheduled for Wednesday night at Danvers High School – which was evacuated earlier in the day because of a nearby gas main break – will go ahead as scheduled. School Superintendent Lisa Dana said students and staff were allowed back in the building at 3:20 p.m. and everything is back to normal. She said the debate, scheduled for 7 p.m. in the auditorium, will happen as scheduled. U.S. Rep. John Tierney, (D-Salem) and Republican challenger Richard Tisei will meet for their second debate of the campaign. Libertarian candidate Daniel Fishman will also join them. All three candidates are vying to represent the Sixth Congressional District, which includes Danvers. Construction workers at the high school construction …
