SwampWalk Grand Opening This Saturday

The open space project, a boardwalk that loops for a third of a mile through the Great Wenham Swamp with a viewing area in the middle, is finally complete. A grand opening is scheduled for May 18 at 10 a.m.

Go for a Walk Through the Great Wenham Swamp

The open space project, a boardwalk that loops for a third of a mile through the Great Wenham Swamp, is finally complete with a table and benches on the observation platform for a peaceful respite.

The SwampWalk is finally ready for its grand debut. The Danvers Open Space & Recreation Committee is planning to hold a grand opening ceremony May 18 (10 a.m.) and local nature lovers are invited to come by to check out the birds, wetlands, beaver dams and other wildlife that inhabit the Great Wenham Swamp. There will even be special prizes for anyone who spots a spotted turtle or a member of three local beaver families. The project, which has been a decade in the making, has created a 1,769-foot boardwalk that loops through the swamp and provides another link to two neighboring towns: Danvers and Wenham. Swampwalk Now on YouTube

The Danvers Swampwalk now has it own channel on YouTube.

The Danvers Swampwalk, completed last fall off the Danvers Rail Trail, has a new online presence. It has its own YouTube channel. Take a look at the newest video, which features a walk on the Swamp Walk in the snow set to music.

PHOTOS: 'Golden Spike' Marks Completion of Swampwalk This Week

Danvers Swamp Walk has been completed and the "Golden Spike" has gone in.

The Danvers Swamp Walk has been completed and the "Friends of Swampwalk" will host an inauguration ceremony in the spring. The group also plans to continue having ad-hoc fun by adding new features, interpretive signs, tables and benches. The walk is a loop through the swamp off the Danvers rail Trail on the north end, near Choate Farm. Take a look at some photos from the final work.

Is the Swampwalk Complete?

There are two work weekends coming up to complete the Danvers Swampwalk.

Volunteers plan to finish the Swampwalk during two weekends in mid-October that will connect the two observations area together and complete the loop through the swamp off the Rail Trail. George Saluto invites anyone to help with "the most-fun, most-amazing project in the town of Danvers." Work is hapenning on - Friday, Oct. 12; Saturday, Oct. 13 and Sunday Oct. 14 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19; Saturday, Oct. 20 and Sunday, Oct. 21 fom 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saluto encourages volunteers to bring a cordless drill to help secure the decking on the walkway. During a recent update in font of the Board of Selectmen, Saluto said that in June a request was put out for $5,000 in donations to finish the project and donations came in that exceeded $5,…
