Taxis Given OK to Immediately Resume Danvers Pickups

Three taxi companies that have pending taxi licenses filed with the town of Danvers were given a temporary OK on Tuesday to immediately start picking up customers again.

Three local taxi companies were given a temporary OK on Tuesday to immediately start picking up customers after a compliance check last week found no licensed companies with a town license. Even them, the board could issue a temporary license if the companies fall short of the town's requirements. Technically, the Selectmen's vote gave companies that have already submitted applications "permission to operate," said Town Manager Wayne …

Although I disagree with the way this particular situation was handled at this point in time I am glad my town is checking the legitimacy of taxi companies operating in Danvers. It may seem like government meddling but the intention is to protect the citizens of Danvers from unsafe or uninsured taxis.   more ›

Cab Companies Given Fines, Told to Get Town License

The four cab companies that regularly operate in Danvers were fines on Tuesday and told they need a license to pick up passengers in Danvers.

There are no licensed cab companies in Danvers and on Tuesday night cabs operating in Danvers were given a $100 fine for picking up a fare in town, reports the Salem News. The cabs were called to the Liberty Tree Mall and when they arrived to pick up a passenger were given a $100 fine, the News said. "We were told if they see us in Danvers, we would be pulled over and be fined again,” the general manager of North Shore Taxi in Peabody Sean McKinnon told the paper. Heather, I have to agree with you 100%. So, instead of calling cab companies, we should call Mike Powers 978-750-0543, Keith Lucy 978-777-5789, Dan Bennett 978-774-0296, Gardner Trask 978-774-1338 and Bill Clark 978-774-0550. I think we should have the patch send out a newslink with their phone numbers. Instead of calling the taxi companies, people needing a ride home can now call our selectman. …   more ›
