Visions for Vacancies

What Should Go Here at 51 Needham Rd?

This property has been empty for several years and plans for a new seafood restaurant are no longer on the table.

This vacant building at 51 Needham Rd. next to Hollywood Hits and visible from Route 128 used to be home to a sports club, but that was about six years ago. Turner's Seafood of Gloucester was eyeing the property as recently as last May and planning to make extensive renovations to open up another of its seafood restaurants (similar to the one in Melrose), but those plans are now dead in the water, so to speak. Highway motorists today can clearly see the "For Lease" signs around the site. The Turners made it clear from the start they needed a full liquor license in order to go through with their plans and since the town didn't have any available to issue, they sought to get one by special legislation. Last May, Town Meeting voters approved …

Still Empty, What Could Fill the Former 'Tequilas' Builiding?

Tequilas restaurant and bar has been closed for more than three years and the Route 1 building has been empty.

It was more than three years ago that Tequila's, the bar and restaurant on Route 1, shut down. The building, next to Home Depot at the Route 114 westbound off ramp, has been empty since then. About a year ago, a few Danvers Patch readers suggested that another restaurant use would be ideal for the location, including either a brew pub or a Cracker Barrel - a southern-themed restaurant and country store. But the building remains vacant and on the market to this day. A former listing by Colliers International said that the property would be perfect for a restaurant, but also for a bank or other retail use. The real estate agent with the listing, Chris Kelly of Atlantic Retail Properties, did not return a call seeking comment. The property …

Sports Authority Nearing Mall Move; What Should Fill the Empty Space?

The Sports Authority has plans to move to the other side of the Liberty Tree Mall next month.

What store should replace the soon-to-be vacant space at the Liberty Tree Mall that has been home to The Sports Authority? The store has a move planned to the opposite side of the mall and will reopen there on Saturday, Oct. 20, according to Sports Authority spokesman Kelly Baldyga. The store is now located at the back of the mall, near the police station and mall entrance from Ash Street. The new store will face the front of the mall where Bed, Bath and Beyond was located between Kohl’s and A.C. Moore. The new Sports Authority store will have 10-20 additional employees be 35,000 square feet. It will also have a new layout with brighter lighting and bold colors, Baldyga said. Plus, it will include a new fitness equipment area, expanded …

What Should Go in the Former 'My Low-Carb Life' Space?

The retail space most recently home to My Low-Carb Life is now empty. Tell us what should go there next.

For years, My Low Carb Life was a destination store for some people in Danvers. But now it is out of business. The storefront in the plaza on Route 114 (136 Andover St.) is now empty. There has been some turnover in the plaza in recent years, including the change from a cell phone store to a Lacrosse Unlimited and a sub shop to a Pizza Hut. The plaza is currently home to Supercuts and 4 Season Nails, among other businesses.  The empty space is 1,656 square feet, according to a "for lease" sign in the window. Now, just for fun, we want you to tell us what you think should go there. If you had the funds and power to place any new business in the location, what would it be? Let us know in the comments.

What Should Go in This Vacant Danvers Square Space?

What do you think should go in a small retail or office space in Danvers Square?

There is a small open storefront along High Street in Danvers Square that is perfect for a retail store or office. It had been home to an insurance agent and is next door to the future location of Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt, which is scheduled to open this fall. The space is listed as "for lease" as office space by the Mega Group. It had also been occupied by offices for the former Danvers Savings Bank and Danversbank. It is part of a 5,038 square foot office building that was built in 1970 and is owned by High Street Realty LLC. So what do you think should go there? Let us know in the comments section.

Former Tequila's: What Should Go Here Now?

What do you think should go into the former Tequila's location on Route 1?

Tequila's Restaurant closed its doors in June 2009, and the 80 Newbury St. location is still vacant. In May 2011, the Danvers Board of Selectmen revoked the all-alcoholic license Tequila's held. When Tequila’s filed for bankruptcy in 2009 and defaulted on a loan from the bank, Danversbank had since been working on finding a license buyer. Their license was later one of the three granted to downtown establishments this past summer. Now, just for fun, we want you to tell us what you think should go there. If you had the funds and power to place any new business in the location, what would it be? Let us know in the comments.

What Should Go In This Vacant Spot On 114?

Let us know what you'd like to see in the comments.

In the 29 Andover Street plaza located on Route 114 in Danvers, there is a vacant spot next to Grassfields and Eastern Boarder, waiting for a new establishment to move in. Over the summer, Oye's, a high-end Japenese restaurant, was interested in opening in the vacant spot. When the three liquor licenses available were granted to downtown establishments, Oye's, which also has a restaurant in Reading, decided to seek out other locations. Now, just for fun, we want you to tell us what you think should go there. If you had the funds and power to place any new business in the location, what would it be? Let us know in the comments.

Mario's Restaurant: What Should Go Here Now?

What do you think should go into the former Mario's Restaurant location?

Mario's Restaurant's doors were closed at the end of October 2011, and the 10 Purchase St. location is currently vacant. Before Mario's was opened in Dec. 2010, the spot was formerly home to Salvo's North End Pizza. The building is now up for sale, and just for fun, we want you to tell us what you think should go there. If you had the funds and power to place any new business in the location, what would it be? Let us know in the comments.

Anthony's Deli: What Should Go Here Now?

What do you think should go into the former Anthony's Deli location?

Anthony's Deli closed its doors at the end of 2011, and the 2 High St. location is currently vacant. Before Anthony's, the spot was the former home of the Sweet Heart Bake Shop. Former Bed Bath and Beyond: What Should Go Here Now?

What do you think should replace Bed Bath and Beyond at the Liberty Tree Mall?

Now that Bed Bath and Beyond has moved across Endicott Street, the Liberty Tree Mall has a large vacant spot in between Kohl's and Buffalo Wild Wings that hasn't been decided on yet.  With the Liberty Tree Mall steps from tons of other businesses on Route 114 and at the North Shore Mall, we're not sure what gem we are missing that would be perfect for this vacant spot. Just for fun, we want you to tell us: what do YOU think should go here? Let us know in the comments.

Crate and Barrel would be great. But yes, a Christmas Tree Shop would go with the white trash theme of the Liberty Tree Mall.   more ›
