Crews from both Danvers and Peabody were on scene along Route 114 on Thursday after several utility poles came crashing down to the road in gusty winds.
It remained unclear at midday Thursday how long Route 114 would remain closed at the Danvers-Peabody line. A squall line of rain and wind swept through the area just before 10 a.m. on Thursday, ripping down utility poles and wires right at the line between the two communities near the Outback Steakhouse. The wires and poles down in the road forced its closure. There were three utility poles on the road and another five that were bent or leaning at about noon. Route 114 remained closed between Walter Road in Peabody and Palmer Avenue in Danvers. Police at the scene said there were no cars or property that was otherwise damaged by the poles. Strong and damaging winds may bring down some trees, limbs and power lines, causing scattered power outages and obstacles for morning commuters.
A high wind warning has been issued for Thursday morning in Danvers, as windspeeds of 20-30 miles per hour with up to 65 mph gusts whip through the area. Hamid Jafari, Director Engineering and Operations for Danvers Electric, said about 300-400 electric customers were without electric service on Thursday morning. The outages were along Maple Street from Vineyard Street to the Middleton town line, Cherry Street and the police station. A high wind watch has been issued for Wednesday night because of the possibility of wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour.
Wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour on Wednesday night could bring down trees and power lines, warns the National Weather Service. A high wind watch was issued on Tuesday at 4:42 p.m. by the weather service on Taunton for much of coastal and eastern Massachusetts, including Danvers, because the south-southwest winds at 20-30 mph could gust to 60 mph. The high wind watch means that the potential exists for strong and damaging winds in Danvers. The strong winds could bring down trees and power lines as well as cause property damage, the weather service said. A wind advisory is in place through the day on Sunday.
The first snowstorm of the winter is over, but forecasters are warning that gusty winds will linger through the day on Sunday. The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory that runs through 8 p.m. on Sunday. Northwest winds blowing at 25-30 miles per hour with gusts to 50 miles per hour are expected through the day. The strongest winds are expected between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., the weather service said. The wind advisory was issued because sustained winds of 31-39 miles or gusts to between 46 and 57 miles per hour are expected. The wind could knock down tree limbs and possible cause power outages.

Gusty southern winds could cause minor tree damage and power outages on Tuesday night through early Wednesday.
Wind gusts as high as 50 miles per hour are expected on Tuesday night into Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. A wind advisory has been issued for 4 p.m. on Tuesday through 6 a.m. on Wednesday. The advisory extends across most of eastern Massachusetts, including Danvers, plus parts of Connecticut and Rhode Island.
