Striving to 'give back,' the owner of Solstice Massage & Bodywork at 92 High Street in Danvers utilizes her skills to provide relief to men and women in uniform with free and discounted treatments.
Laura Broderick may have found the best way to give back to our honored active military men and women - literally. “They get their massages complimentary - I don’t charge them,” the Danvers resident stated. When asked how long this deal is running, or if it coincides with a special holiday or event, her reply is simple and succinct: “It’s not a special - I won’t charge them. Ever.” Broderick is not only giving back to active military, she’s included veterans of the military, too, who receive services at a 50 percent discount. One may wonder why Broderick chose this specific cause, to give back specifically to men and women in uniform. She explained: “Why do I do it? Well, my brother was in the Army; my dad was in the Korean War, and …

Advancements in computer technology have enabled Pip Printing to evolve over the twenty two years the Freeman's have owned the printing shop in the Danvers Village.
The Freemans weren’t exactly looking to get into the printing and promotional items business. In fact, Bob Freeman, who had a background in engineering, was simply looking into options for business ownership when his realtor suggested Pip Printing - part of a franchise based out of California - with a shop located in Danvers that had just hit the market. Pip Printing has been a staple in the Danvers Village strip of shops since the 1970s. The property was once the site of a butchery, before it became Postal Instant Press, and finally evolved into what is now known as Pip Printing. The Freeman’s took a chance and never looked back. Sept. 8 of this year marked the 22nd anniversary at Pip Printing. While Phyllis Freeman grew up in Brookline, …

Owner Margaret Melanson marvels at the loyalty from consignors who have been with her from the start, and how with a little luck she is in the location of her dreams after twenty eight years.
What a difference a day makes. When the building where Margaret's Place has been a staple for consignment clothing for the past quarter century was sold, many wondered if owner Margaret Melanson would just close up shop. But as the first ever consignment shop to open in Danvers over twenty eight years ago, Melanson at 75, was not nearly ready to throw in the towel on the business she has loved from the day she bought it from the original owner in 1984. With a lot of help from her daughters, and some additional little luck finding the perfect space to relocate to, Margarets Place is back on track, and better than ever. With gleaming wood floors, exposed brick walls, high ceilings with exposed natural wood beams, and an antique beehive …

Brian Lejeune, owner of Solar Infusions, extols the health benefits of tanning, while offering end of season savings on tanning sessions.
With the end of summer nearing, Brian Lejeune, owner of Solar Infusions on High Street, is running a new promotion to help folks continue catching the rays. Starting Aug. 13, customers will enjoy unlimited tanning for just $88 through the end of 2012. “It’s a great deal,” he said. “People are getting about four and a half months for a really good price.” Lejeune explained that many Solar Infusions clients begin tanning for cosmetic reasons. But when they discover the health benefits, he’s found, they continue with sessions. "It's fun to teach people the science of tanning, the biology of how the body responds, and why it makes them feel good - what happens to their bodies biologically with the production of vitamin D, which helps …

Cappy's Seafood is a branch of the original Cappy's at Salem Willows. Since opening in 2010, owner Arthur Siasios has relied on word of mouth to bring in new customers to his seafood eatery.
The word is out, and it’s: delicious. Since opening in Danvers in 2010, Cappy's Seafood has relied primarily on word of mouth to spread the news about their premium quality food. Based on its commitment to fresh seafood cooked right, the Danvers sit-down eatery is an extension of Salem's iconic Cappy's Seafood, known for serving up "the best seafood around" to hungry Salem Willows patrons for over forty years now. Owner Arthur Siasios was born in Greece and emigrated with his parents to the U.S. at the tender age of six, settling on the north shore where he still lives today. After working for many years at Cappy's Seafood in Salem, Siasios had the opportunity to purchase from the original owner, Jeff Bazakos, and has been running it…

Partnering with Brides Across America, Bella Sera on Andover Street will give away free gowns to qualifying military brides this weekend.
Planning a wedding is stressful in its own right. There is so much to think about, and there seems to never be enough time to cross off everything on the bride's to-do list. The entire process can be downright overwhelming. Every bride wants to look her best on her special day, but finding the perfect wedding gown can be daunting, and even more so when the wedding date is moved up unexpectedly. The cost alone can put that dream of affording the perfect gown just out of reach. Perhaps nobody knows this pressure more than military brides, especially those who have very little time to pull it all off before deployment. With this thought in mind, the non-profit group Brides Across America was born. The Massachusetts-based charitable …

Family owned dental practice is offering specials including free teeth whitening and youth sport mouth guards, as well as introductory rates in their new state of the art practice at 37 Maple Street.
Christine Jarmoc, DMD and Marcin “Marty” Jarmoc, DMD are the dental dream team behind Northern Star Dental Group. The Danvers duo is set to open their new dental practice, which they describe as a one-stop-shop with cutting edge dental technology, in the heart of Danvers Square on July 14. So what's different about Northern Star? “All our services are done under one roof," Marty said. "Christine does everything a general dentist offers, and I do all the oral surgery: jaw surgery, implants, bone grafting, and wisdom tooth extractions; anesthesia and sedation, if needed; as well as botox injections and fillers. We don’t turn people away, and want to make care more accessible. We have only built in half the space, for now. But we will …

Find out about the fourth of July pregame festivities on July 3 at Maple Street Tavern.
What to do when the 3rd of July comes around, and friends inquire about your annual pre-fireworks bash, but you have to work? If you're Dean Borders, owner of Maple Street Tavern in Danvers Square, you bring the party to you. Borders said the idea for a fireworks pregame came to him one night over a beer when he thought, "wouldn't it be great to have something outside?" The Tavern, which is set in the middle of a string of shops on the corner of Maple and School Street, has ample space in the private lot directly behind the building, the perfect spot, Borders said, for a party. Once permissions were granted from the landlord and neighboring businesses, all Borders needed was to approach the Board of Selectmen with his request for an …

This week's business spotlight is thriving after undergoing changes this year.
Patch Readers Choice Award Winner 2012, Salon Oasis has been a staple in the Hawthorne North Plaza on Route One for over twelve years. Promising the “Newbury Street experience of Boston at a price you can afford,” the salon, owned by Beverly native Dickie Gurrette, had maintained a core group of stylists from the very beginning. But, as many businesses evolve and change over the years, Salon Oasis has undergone something of a metamorphosis. Last fall the business experienced staff changes, a transfer of ownership and a fresh marketing perspective. The shake-up resulted in a "new" Salon Oasis, that is just as fresh and fun as ever-and totally reinvigorated. Gurrette described the ownership transfer as more of a partnership between himself …
