Strong wind gusts are expected as part of an approaching storm, starting on Wednesday night and lasting into Thursday.
A high wind warning and coastal flood advisory have both been issued as a strong winter storm approaches Danvers on Wednesday night. The coastal flood advisory - which runs from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursday - was issued at 3:51 p.m. on Wednesday and the high wind warning – which runs from 10 p.m. on Wednesday through 11 a.m. on Thursday - was issued at 4:10 p.m. on Wednesday by the National Weather Service in Taunton. Both the warning and the advisory run along the Massachusetts coast from the New Hampshire state line to Cape Cod. High tides and northeast wind could cause minor flooding along the water on Friday.
A coastal flood advisory is has been issued on Friday for waterfront properties because of astronomically high tides. “Some minor coastal flooding is possible with the late morning high tide cycle today,” the National Weather Service said when it issued its advisory on Friday morning. The advisory runs from 8 a.m. through 2 p.m. on Friday. The unusually high tide combined with a “north and northeast flow” off shore could cause “another round of minor coastal flooding with this astronomical high tide.” High tide is Danvers is at 12:22 p.m. The impact on Friday are likely to be a little less than Thursday, the weather service said, because the winds will be slightly less and the tide slightly lower. The storm could drop 1 to 2 inches of rain late Wednesday into Thursday and bring wind gusts along the coast.
A little more than a week after 'superstorm' Sandy swept through Danvers, residents may have to brace for another windy, rainy night on Wednesday. A nor'easter could blow into the area mid-week and the storm could drop 1 to 2 inches of rain from Wednesday into Thursday, according to WHDH meteorologist Jeremy Rainer. Rainer also wrote that coastal winds could gust between 40 and 60 miles per hour along the South Shore, Cape Cod and the islands, although winds "will be much lighter inland with this storm." There is a chance of minor to moderate coastal flooding on Monday and Tuesday.
Minor to moderate coastal flooding in possible as Hurricane Sandy arrives, with a storm surge of 3-5 feet, according to the National Weather Service. It issued a coastal flood watch for Monday. The weather service issued the watch at 7:10 p.m. on Saturday. In addition to Monday, the weather service said the watch runs through Tuesday afternoon for all areas along the coast. The high tide at midday on Monday (11:32 a.m. in Danvers) is when the worst flooding is expected. Vulnerable roads along the water and basements are expected to be the most impacted. The coastal flood watch was issued because there is a potential for moderate coastal flooding.
