Run for Strong Lungs and Innovative Cancer Research

The Lungstrong 5K is Oct. 13 at Cherry Hill Industrial Park.

You can help support innovative lung cancer research this weekend by running in the first annual LUNGstrong 5K in Danvers and Beverly.

The road race, which starts and ends at the Cherry Hill Industrial Park, is put on by Brookwood Financial Partners, LLC to benefit research at Mass. General Hospital via the nonprofit organization LUNGstrong. One percent proceeds from Sunday's event go toward that work.

The organization, which was founded in 2011, says lung cancer kills more Americans each year than breast, prostate, colon and pancreatic cancers combined, but receives far less funding for research toward a cure. Part of that is due to symptoms of lung cancer going undetected until late stages when survival rates are dismal.

Registration is now $30 per person for the 5K, which starts at 11 a.m. on Sunday. There's also a 1 mile fun run, which is $10 to register and begins at 12:15 p.m. You can sign up online here.

The address for the race is 66 Cherry Hill Dr. on the Beverly side of the park.
