One Person Shot After Police Respond to Avalon Apartments

Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting of a suspect who was being taken into custody Thursday night.

A suspect was reportedly shot by police Thursday night after officers responded to an incident at the Avalon apartments on Kirkbride Drive.

According to reports, there were shots fired while police were trying to take the person into custody and the suspect was transported to Beverly Hospital. Patch news partner Channel 7 has video of the scene.

No officers were hurt in the incident and it was unclear what led to or provoked officers into opening fire. Officers were responding to a report of an assault at the apartment complex around 10 p.m.

Police did not divulge much information Thursday night, according to various news reports. No names were released.

In addition to Danvers, Topsfield police and state police detectives were on the scene. According to reports, officers were still conducting their investigation Friday morning around 5 a.m.

"At this time we're not releasing any more information… Other then there was a police shooting that is being investigated by the Danvers Police Department along with the District Attorney's Office and also the state police assigned to the DA's office," Ouellette said Thursday night, reports NECN.

He said there would be more information available in the morning.
