After an Essex County Grand Jury indicted Philip Chism for first degree murder, rape and armed robbery in Danvers High School teacher Colleen Ritzer's murder, Ritzer's family released the following statement:
"We are devastated and heartbroken by the details of the horrific circumstances surrounding the death of our beautiful daughter and sister, Colleen. As a family, we continue to mourn Colleen’s passing and ask that the media respect our privacy during this very difficult time."
Ritzer's body was found around 3 a.m. on Oct. 23 near Danvers High School after police and prosecutors say Chism, 14, murdered her with a box cutter in one of the school's restrooms. Prosecutors and police determined that the murder happened on Oct. 22 after Ritzer ordered Chism to stay after school.
