Culvert Repair to Close Pickering Street for 6-8 Weeks

A culvert project approved this past May at Town Meeting began this past week and will close down Pickering Street for the duration of the summer.

According to Danvers Department of Public Works operations director Bob Lee, the culvert repair will take approximately six to eight weeks.

"It will be done before schools starts," Lee said.

The $289,000 project was approved at Town Meeting in May and involves the installation of a 6-foot by 6-foot box culvert under a section of Pickering Street.

Town staff first realized that the culvert needed work when they were repaving Pickering Street and repairing some potholes in the process. They found out that the potholes were caused by the faulty culvert.

While abutters will be allowed to use the road, Pickering Street will be completely closed off to all other motorists, aside from emergency vehicles.
