Limbaugh Tells Judge There Won't be a Trial

The trial of a Danvers man charged with attacking a police officer with a knife nearly two years ago is finally about to begin .

Roy Limbaugh, who is going on trial April 29 for allegedly attacking Danvers Police Officer John Melto with a knife almost two years ago, is insisting there won't be a court trial and even tried to hand Judge Howard Whitehead a bill for $400,000 at a hearing this week.

The Salem News reports Limbaugh, 59, was in Salem Superior Court Thursday to argue a motion to dismiss one of the charges against him -- failure to register as a sex offender.

During the hearing, he repeatedly told Whitehead there would be no trial and tried to submit his bill, which Whitehead refused to accept, reports the Salem News.

The paper reports that Limbaugh, who is representing himself and is a Level 3 Sex Offender, has made several appeals during the case.

Prosecutors say police did know where Limbaugh was living -- in a trailer park at 37 Popes Ln. -- but not where he was working, reports the Salem News.

Limbaugh is facing a slew of charges related to the August 2011 incident, including armed assault with intent to murder, aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer and failure to register as a sex offender and motor vehicle violations.

Melto, 48, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries following the incident.
