A Friendly Reminder for the Danvers Fireworks

There are a number of restrictions that will be put in place and more law enforcement agents on duty July 3 for the fireworks.

As part of the public awareness campaign for heightened security measures at this year's fireworks display, the Danvers Police Department has placed some digital signboards around town such as the one seen in the video here.

The fireworks, which are the finale of the annual Danvers Family Festival, are still scheduled to go off at 9:30 p.m. July 3 at Plains Park, but there will be controlled access to the park and additional officers on security detail to screen everyone coming into the park.

Certain items, such as backpacks and coolers, will not be allowed inside and neither will bicycles or skateboards. All food and drinks must be placed in clear plastic bags.

The security concerns this year stemmed from the heightened awareness of possible threats in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing.

Festival organizers and police say they have received some concerns from residents at the changes, but the majority of festival-goers appear to be amenable to the increased safety precautions.
